Exploration of Art Therapy Experiences Focusing on the Mindfulness of a Young Male Job Seeker

Abstract

|
The purpose of this case study is to find out how he gained feelings and his life which a male job seeker in his twenties with depressive tendencies, experienced during ¡¯mindfulness-focusing art therapy¡¯. This study was conducted from April to October of 2019, over a course of 26 sessions that were 50 minutes and collected data were analyzed by using narrative inquiry. Results showed that experience stories were ¡®exemplary job seeker," "fighting is bad," "suppressing one¡¯s self while adapting to someone close," "identifying my true feelings while feeling felt sense," "destroying the name of suppressed anger," and "finding what is needed and what is desired." ¡®Mindfulness-focusing art therapy¡¯ in this study allowed to feel, accept, and change sensations and emotions and to realize themselves. This process provided a basis for him to express emotions and receive empathy in life, which in turn allowed him to control emotions and it also changed negative emotions. As a stress reduction program based on mindfulness, mindfulness focusing art therapy served as an opportunity to positively transform negative thinking through the process of feeling and accepting felt sense.
